The Secret by Ronnie Ginnever
Dressed to kill……
Each Christmas Eve for the past 20 years, my next door neighbor dresses in the same 1930’s vintage outfit. She is perfectly attired from head to toe. Where she goes she never tells. I never asked her why or where, but my rich imagination is filled with endless possibilities…. On Christmas Eve, this year, I took a candid photograph of her as she was about to descend the stairs to begin her secret journey. And I will never tell.
Ronnie Ginnever is a born and bred New Yorker, and much of her work is inspired by the spirit and people of that City. Her photography has been shown in museums and galleries and published in magazines in the U.S., Canada and Europe. Wonderful photo and wonderful story behind it…
All killer, no filler (as they used to say about great record albums).
Gotcha….great as always.
Yes, a very mysterious image indeed. I love the green “frame” around the figure, the matching of her hair and the lining on her stole..Wonderful Ronnie!
This is a wonderful image and it’s also one of my favorites of yours. So much mystery. The point of view, her period clothes stirs my imagination. I almost feel like I’m looking at a spirit.
Ronnie, great shot, great story. So many levels of secrets here: the who, the when, the where of her present life but also of the past life of her outfit: the detail of the fur trim, the suggestion of velvet with satin lining…a rope of pearls, a pair of gold cabaret shoes…all conspiring to whisper secrets.. but just out of earshot…
Ronnie, This is the last image I am looking at before I go to sleep. Did you ever see “Don’t Look Now”? It’s the creepiest movie ever. This photo, and the fact that she is your next door neighbour, haunts me even more…Sweet dreams my dear 😉
(I mean, what if she had turned around while you were taking it?)
As with all your photographs, this one is beyond extraordinary ~ !!! xo.
This is wonderful Ronnie, the image and the story behind it!
Please follow her next year, but then only tell us…we can keep a secret!
