Since childhood, I’ve always loved piers, typical of English seaside resorts. I grew up on the coast of the Bristol Channel where the Severn estuary meets the Atlantic Ocean and our nearest town with a pier was Burnham-on-sea. But the most beautiful, in my opinion, (and that of Sir John Betjeman, “the most beautiful pier in England”) is at Clevedon, further along that coast.

As the Bristol Channel has the second highest tidal range in the world with ranges in excess of 15 metres, there are opportunities photograph the pier with almost no sea, or water rushing under it. When I took these shots last October, it was high tide!

  15. Forse ti conosco, forse no. Preferisco pensare che siamo ignote l’una all’altra. i tuoi moli li sento scialuppa tra te e l’infinito. Ciò che potresti raggiungere ma che, riservata e timida, preferisci allontanare. i moli come possibilità di riflettere, sognare, prendere tempo. Protetti da vetri che inquadrano il cielo e ghisa che sostiene ogni dolore. Forti.

    You remind me of the pier in Oostende, at the Belgian seaside, looking at the ferryboat going to Dover, England and the seagulls sitting on the pier, a very nice reminding.

    I also love piers. When I was young I visited the one In Scheveningen, in Holland.

    Your beautiful pictures make me going back to those moments. Make me feeling the wind in my hair and that exiting feeling to be so small in the middle of all those high waves and all that water.
